Driving Directions from Downtown Vancouver to Whistler

From downtown Vancouver you get onto Georgia Street westbound where this will take you over Lions Gate suspension bridge.

When you reach the far end, keep an eye out for the West Vancouver Exit.

Circle around under the bridge onto Marine Drive. Stay in the right-hand lane over a green bridge and make the first right at Taylor Way.

Head up the steep hill and you'll see Highway 1 about 1 km (¾ mile) before you. Merge to the left under Highway 1 and turn left immediately under the overpass.

As you approach Horseshoe Bay, look for the exit for Squamish and Whistler. You are now on Highway 99, the Sea to Sky Highway, which will take you all the way to Whistler Village.

Driving directions from Vancouver International Airport to Whistler (YVR)

Proceed on the airport causeway over the Arthur Lang Bridge into Vancouver. Exit the bridge using Granville Street. Continue north on Granville into downtown Vancouver and over the Granville Street Bridge.

Exit the Granville Street Bridge via the Seymour Street exit, a right lane off ramp.

Continue on Seymour (one way street) to Georgia Street ( 6 - 7 blocks), keep in left lane and make a left on Georgia, and then over the Lions Gate suspension bridge.

When you reach the far end, keep an eye out for the West Vancouver Exit.

The Canadian border is approximately 165 km (100 miles) from The Seattle-Tacoma International airport. Driving from the south of Seattle on Interstate 5, the highway splits at the airport. The I 5 going into Seattle and highway 405 continues north to whistler. 405 joins up with I 5 further on. From that juncture it is 128 km (80 miles) to the boarder. Whistler travel guide.

In this Whistler travel guide, there are two routes to Whistler from the border.

First, the route into the city of Vancouver.

I 5 brings you to the border where you see the Peace Arch, commemorating friendship between our two countries. This is called the Douglas Border crossing. You are now in Canada. Your new highway is now Highway 99.

Note. Canada uses the metric system. 100 Km equals 66 miles.

The whistler travel guide route takes you through the Massey Tunnel under the Fraser River. The Oak Street Bridge is 32 km (20 miles) from the border. Get in the right lane before the bridge, cross it and take the exit for Granville Street Bridge.

Follow Granville street to the Granville Street Bridge.

From the border direct to Whistler

This whistler travel guide route, by-passes the city of Vancouver.

Approaching the Canada-US border take exit 275 a mile before the border, leave I 5 onto the Pacific Highway. This border crossing is also called the truck crossing. Once in Canada it’s called 176th. Street or Highway 15.

You will travel about 13 km (8 miles) straight ahead and then you will be taking the Trans Canada Highway number 1 Westbound.

From here it is plain sailing. Stay on this highway and you will pass over the Port Mann Bridge, Coquitlam, Burnaby, across the Ironworkers bridge, up a long hill.

You will pass North and West Vancouver cities and eventually you will be approaching the BC Ferry terminal. This is your cue. Watch for the exit for Squamish and Whistler.
